Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's efforts to achieve mainstream fame were disastrous. Before new material was released the two major labels had signed and removed Perry. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The title song was a fun and playful single that garnered little or no interest. I Kissed a Girl, a confident ode to her sexual curiosity set against a hard-edged electronic-pop beat, made a bigger impact a few months later. The song quickly stirred controversy as some critics derided its promotion of same-sex relationships and others charged that the sexually explicit scene the song depicted sparked the fantasies of males about sexuality among females. But the mixture of sensuality and polished music helped I Kissed a Girl become a number one hit in multiple countries powering the album sales of the Boys (2008). Its bouncy, sharp-tongued and bouncy 2nd single Hot N Cold also proving popular the album much of that Perry wrote herself eventually registered the sales of over 3 million copies across the United States.
